Larry Lin's Home Page:
I have completed the Boston project (taking the rapid rail, living in nice hotel next to Boston Common, Working in the office close to Fenway Park ...)
Now I am working in a VERY exciting project: SummaCare Inc - insurance company in Akron, Ohio - on their Amisys Advance (ASI) migration project away from Amysis 3000. There is a LARGE amount of technical and functional knowledge that I am getting to learn, but mostly I am stretching my "Project Management" muscles on this project. I will share more about it later.
I attended the HIMSS 2006 national conference in San Diego. In addition to the company name of "L'information Consulting", I also used the business name of "Greater China Healthcare Solutions" to further help people to know what I do.
Had a booth in the Global Trade Pavilion
Spoke for 45 minutes about "New Beginning in China, Opportunities for You"
Led the Greater China Region SIG (special interest group) meeting
Spoke briefly in the HIMSS AsiaPac (Asia Pacific) '07 conference announcement meeting
Met with news media representatives to talk about the new trend - US companies going to China.
Posted all of my trip stories, in Chinese language, at the www.miforum.net website -- you can see them here.
Posted lots of trip pictures here: www.L-information.net/himss06/pics
... you will see a lot of these information at my company's website, www.L-information.net .
I have already purchased airline tickets to go to the up the CHIMA/CHITA/HIMSS conference in China - XiAn, ¦è¦w, from 5/26/2006 - 5/29/2006. I will also stop by Taiwan and HongKong to speak with the key leaders there. More information about that trip soon.
I placed even more pictures of about Aidan Jake Lin in my website... see the link below. ^_^
I have completed the North Carolina MMIS project - although still offering them some some scattered services on a part-time basis - and have begun a project in Boston, helping Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA.
Our son was just born!!! Go to this page for more details.
Phoebe's mom came from Taiwan to take care of her. Mrs. Liao cooks such wonderful meals.
We also held a baby shower back on 11/12 Saturday.
Phoebe stopped her weekend job as a Chinese language teacher during this time period - was teaching little children Taiwan/Chinese phonics, £t£u£v and learning through English-alphabet-based pronunciation guide.
Recently Phoebe and I have visited two additional cities: Labor Day trip to New York City (click here to see the pictures), and July 4th Independence Day trip to Vancouver Canada (click here to see pictures).
Phoebe is now 6 months pregnant. Thanks to God that the baby boy is still very healthy ... kicking and rolling insider Phoebe's stomach. ^_^ We already chose names for him ... let me know if you want to know what his Chinese and English names are!
My project in North Carolina state government is almost done, for the first phase of 6 months. I will seek another project, try to raise the rate here for an extension contract, or try to greatly expand L'information Consulting with investment money. Will keep you all informed.
I have just become the leader for the HIMSS "Greater China Region SIG" (special interest group). This group will help to prepare American healthcare companies and individuals to learn & equip themselves for entry into the China market. If you or someone you know would like to join, please contact me.
I am now an avid user of the amazing website www.LinkedIn.com . Give it a try too!
I just updated the entire section of "My Cities". Take a look please!
A lot of major news happened recently!
My wife Phoebe is pregnant! Her due date is expected to be 12/14/2005. ^_^ Thank God for this blessing.
I have begun to work on the wonderful project of North Carolina MMIS development.
I drive back and forth between Atlanta and Raleigh NC almost every weekend. 800 miles / 16 hours per weekend. =(
My role - Contract management. Creating databases and other processes/tools to make sure the $22 million project goes well. I attend many meetings and am beginning to know the inner-workings of all Medicaid functions really well - e.g. claims, enrollment, credentialing, eligibility, provider info.
Here are some new sets of pictures that I shared on the internet:
20050530 Savannah, Hilton Head Island trip - memorial day weekend, near Georgia coast.
Picking Strawberries - with the Taiwanese church in Atlanta, near Stone Mountain park.
My company, L'information Consulting, has begun to assist two companies with business plans creations:
Helping an Asian healthcare information website to drastically change business model and revenue stream.
Helping an San Francisco / Silicon Valley start-up to gain funding for US-based medical device research and Taiwan-based production.
I am now working with HIMSS to drastically initiate new lines of China-related services:
Creation of a Special Interest Group (SIG) to focus on helping US-based firms to entry China's healthcare IT market.
Posting regular articles on Healthcare IT News regarding new trends, policies, business activities in China-related healthcare IT industry.
Speaking in 2006 national convention - teaching sessions - regarding the topic of healthcare IT modernization for China.
It has once again been a whole year since I last updated my website. Sorry - I will try to put more updates on here, such as:
Current projects, new pictures, my publications, new cities visited, etc.
Professional development (e.g. professional societies, business ideas)
Here is a quick glimpse of what I have done in this past year:
Phoebe and I participated a lot in Twin Cities Chinese Christian Church (T4C), and Chinese Christian Church of Woodbury.
Hosted events such as Minnesota State Fair trip; driving trip to Lake Minnetonka, water falls state park near airport, Afton Alps skiing trip, nursing home project, etc. Look at a lot of pictures that I share about those activities.
I completed the project with State of Minnesota Dept of Human Services in 10/04, so we moved back to Atlanta.
I took a one-month project in Nashville, Tennessee - a hospital / medical college and its healthcare IT security project (HIPAA Security assessment and remediation plans). That ran from 11/04 to 12/04.
Immediately after that, I began to work for State of Iowa, Dept of HHSS, Medicaid Enterprise (IME) project. This time Phoebe stayed in Atlanta, while I got a short-term apartment in Des Moines.
I also became active in the Des Moines Chinese church - briefly participate in the choir and the young adults group.
Phoebe visited Taiwan from 1/05 to 2/05, researching color printing software, logos, CD's, best practices, etc. She also celebrated Chinese New Year there with her family.
Then she and I attended HIMSS's national convention in Dallas, Texas:
I was a reporter for China Insight magazine, and wrote a report for the newspaper regarding the China healthcare IT market & American companies that are already participating in those efforts.
I also got to know a lot of important people who share similar interests - bringing healthcare IT tools and practices from USA to China. Those people include - Dave Garets (CEO of HIMSS Analytics company & previous Director of the Board of HIMSS; Rocky Shi - independent consultant living in USA but traveling to China constantly, who is also a founding member of CHITA - a subsidiary and partner society of HIMSS; Steve Lieber - the current CEO and President of HIMSS; Diane Lane - who was a Georgia Tech Health Systems alumna and also an entrepreneur and consulting company owner).
I returned to Atlanta in March 05, and now am searching again for the next consulting project - or a more permanent job.
In this past year, I have become active with PMI (Project Management Institute) and HIMSS chapters - in Minnesota, Iowa and Georgia.
There are several business opportunities that I have looked seriously into:
Bringing Taiwan nurses to USA under my company, therefore turning L'information Consulting partially into a staffing company.
Helping my parents' company, Tatung Printing company, to begin drastically improve its color printing and advanced design capabilities. We formed new relationships with other printers in Atlanta area to rapidly gain expertise and toolset for such ventures.
Introducing USA / Atlanta investors to China investment opportunities - e.g. commercial properties, residential properties, public infrastructures, etc.
(Major effort) Helping American healthcare IT companies to:
Come up with customized marketing strategy and market research for China market.
Assess whether their existing software and services will sell well in China currently, and for the next few years.
Help the companies from USA to modify their software, marketing material, marketing campaign, product documents, legal agreements and other items into Chinese language - and to be suitable for China culture, preferred word choices, healthcare market uniqueness (e.g. payment structure, relationship between Social Insurance system and private companies, purchasing process, data standards) and other customization requirements.
Phoebe and I bought a new car - Honda Pilot SUV 2005 - since the older car that she was driving (Mitsubishi Galant) has broken down. We like this car a lot.

3/18/04 - 3/28/04, I visited China for the first time. I went there to look at the emerging healthcare market and investing / employment opportunities. I took lots of pictures again, on http://groups.msn.com/larrylin .
Wow, it has been more than 1 year since I last updated this site.
After the last posting (2/21) I returned to Nebraska USA to continue working on my contracting project.
4/5/03 my two sisters (Carol, Stephanie), brother (Alex) and I all went to Vail, Colorado for our annual spring snow skiing trip. The pictures are also on http://groups.msn.com/larrylin .
5/8/03 Phoebe arrived in USA with her parents and family friend. First, we all met up in New York City. Then, we all visited Florida together in a pre-wedding trip (Sea World, Disney, Epcot, Jacksonville, etc.) -- started in Atlanta, then drove down there. I think I also posted these pictures on my picture site, http://groups.msn.com/larrylin .
5/17/03 Phoebe and I had our wedding banquet in Atlanta, Georgia.
After that Phoebe and I happily lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for a while. "Life in Lincoln" pictures are available on my pictures site.
5/24/03 my entire family drove from Atlanta to Lincoln Nebraska to visit us. We had great times, even in the small city and rural state.
7/4/03 Phoebe and I took a Independence Day vacation to Colorado - Denver, Summit County (Loveland Pass, ski resorts, Colorado Springs, etc.).
But the state government decided to stop the project early, so I had to leave that city, that job and move back to Atlanta as I looked for the next contract.
8/7/03 Phoebe and I took a trip to Chicago for contract interview and also a little sight-seeing.
Thanks to God that I finally found a really good HIPAA project to work on, in Minnesota started on 10/29/03.
I am engaged! I was in Taiwan for 2
weeks, enjoying Chinese New Year (Year of the Goat) and going through 2
engagement ceremonies. One of those was a 110-table, 1000+ people
event; the other a more intimate 5-table one in Taipei, in a 5-star
hotel.

Hi! Long time no chat/post!
A lot has happened in the last few months, so I was not able to post
news here often.
I posted a lot more pictures onto my MSN Groups site, including trip to Philadelphia.
On August 12, I left the company ACS, because I was lured away with heavy-traveling, high-paying IT contract ... that eventually disappeared!
I was lied to for a second time; I accepted another consulting/contracting position in New York city, flew there, but found out that job also eventually disappeared.
Right now, I am in Lincoln, Nebraska. I work as an contractor for the State of Nebraska, Department of Health and Human Services Systems. I focus on HIPAA consulting tasks here.
I LOVE it here!
My favorite places: the 24-hours Super Walmart, downtown YMCA, and coming to the University of Nebraska's Student Union building & bringing my work here to do.
Here are some of the local news here: The Lincoln Journal/Star newspaper.
I live in a highrise (so they call it) apartment, near the State Capitol ... I will tell you more about it later.
I will post a LOT more information about my life, my job, eMBA and other things soon! Stay tuned, and don't forget to visit my new pictures site.
I just posted two new things: my eMBA program's list of all classes, and my updated resume. Enjoy!
I just completed my eMBA trip to Iceland! You HAVE to see these pictures ...
It was a meeting of 3 schools - Iceland, Greece and Atlanta.
We took classes together, went to a retreat in the mountains, visited local company, danced, etc!
When you get into that MSN Community, please click on "Pictures".
I want to show you a document about:
My current company, ACS.

Happy Chinese New Year, the year of the Horse! ^_^ (I am a Dog.)
Happy Valentine's day. My schedule today is: go home, study for tomorrow and Saturday's eMBA classes, take younger siblings Stephanie and Alex to work out at YMCA, come home to check email / chats, read more, let the puppy in, then go to sleep. Sigh.
I have a new site now! communities.msn.com/larrylin . Please also visit there to get: pictures, message board, chats, files, and my announcements. ^_^
My friend Dave Huang also attended a wedding in Cleveland, Ohio this past weekend. He was an usher in that meeting (they have very nice tuxedos!). Here is the link. My friends in San Francisco, Deb and David, were also in this meeting. They all met in Duke University.
More recent news:
One of my most recent favorite sites is www.teveo.com, where I can go and look at web cams from different places. Although most of the cameras are either boring or uneventful, there are two cams that I love the most: "WPRO" which shows the streets of Kaohsiung, Taiwan (where I am watching the morning sun-rise there, 6:10am local time) and "Shinjiri's Room which sometimes points of a TV showing Japanese TV programs!
My daily routine now include: Working out at YMCA (rowing machine, running, swimming) and taking Metabolife every day to shrink my tummy.
I visited California twice in these last month - Los Angeles right before Thanksgiving, and yesterday to San Francisco. There is a $18 - a night Hostel right next to SF's Chinatown which I can highly recommend -- It is right on the #1 bus line. Ask me more about it if you are interested.
