Greater China Region, Special Interest Group.

(This can also allow us to include best-practices & top vendors from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Philippines and many more places.)

 

Mission Statement

Mission of this SIG is to advance HIMSS & all stakeholders' interests - with significant, timely, useful and constructive focus on the prospering Greater China region.  Concurrently, this SIG will fulfill all of the expectations and obligations that HIMSS and SIGs have placed upon this group (e.g. increased membership level, value creation, thought leadership, participation opportunity).

 

Initially this SIG will focus mostly on mobilizing the HIMSS members residing and working in USA.  The SIG will actively collaborate (instead of compete) with existing efforts, such as CHITA/CHIMA annual conference,

 

Proposed Goals

Goals of the Greater China Region SIG include:

l       Helping SIG participants to enjoy the standard benefits of joining a SIG - information sharing, viewpoint discussion, experience exchange, collaboration with other SIGs, opportunity for participation / service / leadership, publication/speaking privileges, etc.

 

l       Fulfill all requirements set forth by Membership Services group, such as timely reports, regular meetings, updated sites (e.g. webpage, SharePoint, member directory), close interaction with HIMSS headquarters, annual SIG meeting at the national conference, etc.

 

l       Benefit all stakeholders:  Current HIMSS members, potential HIMSS members, the industry at large (both in USA, China and abroad), corporate member companies, future leaders (i.e. students, aspired young HIT professionals), US economy, China healthcare market (including - devices makers, IT companies, hospitals/clinics, government regulators, insurance companies, educational institutions), healthcare professionals and patients.

 

l       Help HIMSS in many ways:  gaining recognition for international leadership in China healthcare management efforts, drastically increase members (and therefore membership due revenue - individuals and corporate), publishing best-of-breed knowledge in a variety of formats (e.g. white papers, books, magazine articles, websites), faciliate collaboration with existing organizations (e.g. CHITA, CHIMA), and eventual direct presence in China in the form of a regional HIMSS chapter.

 

Proposed Objectives

 

 

l       A goal of establishing the first round of "15 major topics" to educate and prepare all HIMSS US-based professionals.

n           Future rounds may also be possible - for additional or specific/niche topics.

n           Those "Topics" can be fully covered in a variety of ways - e.g. monthly conference call topics, online threaded discussions, conference sessions, white papers/executive summary, ... )

n           China local experts will be participants in the drafting, reviewing and approving the contents for accuracy and usefulness.

n           Possible topics:

1.        Market overview (history, size, forces, expenditures, stats...)  (leading IT firms, hospitals, associations, equipment makers, US firms in China, ...)

2.        Legal environment and considerations

3.        Leadership structure

4.        Healthcare payment/finance structure

5.        Delivery methods in Greater China  (e.g. facilities)

6.        Special Topic - Traditional Chinese Medicine (herbal, acupuncture, modernization efforts, training/certification ...)

7.        Hot markets (e.g. devices, equipments, exports, professional svcs)

8.        Current trends (a constantly updated area)

9.        Evolving capitation models

10.     Governmental roles (e.g. medical assistance, "Social Insurance" plan, policy / oversight, )

11.     Current and rising standards (e.g. data, coding, HL7/DICOM, X12, ...)

12.     All Resources (books, sites, agent/consultants, export assistance, legal experts, government "trade facilitation" agencies, ...)

13.     Case Studies - winners' stories

14.     How to travel to China (e.g. Visa, airlines, hotels, basic language training)

15.     "Connections", GuangXi - as key success factor in China

16.     Profiling the typical professionals - "oversea returnees", medical students, head of IT, head of nursing dept.;  age, training;  typical org charts; ...

 

l       Meeting and exceeding the SIG membership levels (25 people), with constant effort to locate and add new SIG members.
