Larry Lin's Home Page:
My Self-Introduction
Designed for first time visitors to my website, for people who don't know me
yet.
Hi! My name is Larry Lin. That is what I let my friends and relatives call
me.
At work and in legal situations I go by a different name, Lawrence Sheen Lin. But
you can call me by either name.
You have seen my picture in the home page. So for here, let me tell you other
things about me:
- What I am doing.
- As of today (October/November 2000), I am a manager/senior consultant for an
internet / e-business consulting company. I work with outside
customers to help them bring together their company strategy and
technology decisions, such as: what brand of software to use? What
computer hardware is powerful enough? How many programmers will be
needed? How much money should be invested in what technical
projects? So on and so forth.
- My skills: lead meeting, document processes, recommend improvements, design
database architecture, write web pages, make data interactive on internet.
- I travel a lot now. My home and my office are still in Atlanta, Georgia,
but when I am traveling for work, I spend less time in my house than in
different cities.
- My typical day now: work 10+ hours during the week days, send out daily
devotionals every night anywhere, go work out at 11pm or midnight, sleep in the hotel at
about 1am.
- What I like to do.
- Sports: Volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, SNOW SKIING, running, weight
training, ping-pong, racquetball, mountain biking, hiking, rowing,
- Arts: Drumming, singing, acting, philosophy, photography, Lion-dancing,
christianity lifestyle, gourmet foods, sight-seeing.
- Technology: Website design, computer configuration, chatting, digital
photography (12500+ pictures in 5 years)
- People: Listen to them, make them feel special, learn about people, have
lots of friends. Make friends of all ages (even babies and kids) and all
ethnicities.
- What I have done before.
- Born in Taiwan; came to USA in 1983 when I was going to 7th grade.
- Went to school in Atlanta the whole time: Georgia Tech for BSIE and MSHS.
- Worked in IBM, Reuters Health, a medical informations society, an import/export
company in Atlanta, an HMO in Colorado, and started my own consulting company.
- [more details later]
- What I drive.
- 1993 BMW.
- 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse DOHC, dark green. Don't want to
sell it for a loss, so just keeping it as a spare car.
- 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix. (Don't get it. Not a
worthy, reliable car.) Parked for now.
- My dreams.
- Maybe become a singer, a drummer, an actor, or a model.
- Most likely, though: working as executive or consultant in internet
technology, in multi-ethnic culture (e.g., west coast US, China, Singapore, Taiwan),
focusing on healthcare industry.
- Make my family proud, my wife spoiled and happy, my children up-right, and my God
happy for my devotion.
- What I believe in.
- Live life to the fullest.
- Taking risks, getting rewards.
- Love others the same way that I'd like to be loved.
- There is beauty in stability, order, ceremonies, traditions, past experiences,
and good manners.
- Sense of humor, sympathetic glares and caring ears open all doors.
- Listen more, talk less, but share much if people like to hear about what I have
to say.
- Just like a college degree or successful business, my life should have a plan, an
over-arching purpose and a set of rules. I choose that to be my religious faith.
- No need to spend lots of money on name-brand products, if the alternative product
has high value.
- Give gifts abundantly: invest in people, build up reservoir of good will.
- Love my family and friends; they can be gone at any time. So can I.
- There are lots of successful, good-looking and wealthy people out there. I
am just excessively thankful that God give me what limited things that I have: I am
imperfect but still trying to become better.
- Usually, when something is really true and really good, then people will want it.
However, if they do not want it, then it was probably inaccurately or inadequately
or improperly presented.
- When in doubt about moral issue, ask: "Do I want everyone in the world to
behave like this?"
- Impulsive personality is great for a single person, who is financially
independent and getting bored easily.
I invite you to read a lot more about me at the rest of my site,
specially the site news, "my cities", and resume.
Also you can contact me and/or leave me a message at my "guest book".
